Tucked away just south of Anchorage, the Indian Valley Mine offers a glimpse into the historical impact of gold mining on the Turnagain Arm area. The Indian Valley Mine itself, operational since 1920, invites visitors to explore a variety of historical buildings, including a log cabin, a log assay office, and three time-worn mine shafts, along with a hand-dug water channel. Located near the Seward Highway at mile 104, the site also includes a gift shop and ample parking, making it an easily accessible and educational stop for those traveling in the area. Visitors get the chance to pan for gold themselves, capturing any discovered flakes in a vial to take home—a particularly thrilling activity for children.  The mine also offers bags of ore for purchase, allowing guests to continue their gold panning adventures at home.
